What oil viscosity should I use in my dirt bike?
Check your owner's manual first. Generally: 10W-40 (DB40) for normal conditions, 10W-50 (DB50) for hot climates or hard riding, 10W-60 (DB60) for extreme heat and racing. When in doubt, use the AMSOIL lookup tool or call us at (763) 213-9163.
Can I use AMSOIL in my 2-stroke dirt bike?
Yes! AMSOIL offers several 2-stroke oils. Dominator (TDR) for racing and maximum performance, Interceptor for trail riding with extended storage, and Saber Professional for premix or oil injection systems.
What's the difference between DB40, DB50, and DB60?
All are 100% synthetic 4-stroke dirt bike oils. The number indicates high-temperature viscosity: DB40 (10W-40) for normal conditions, DB50 (10W-50) for hot weather and hard riding, DB60 (10W-60) for extreme heat and racing applications.
Will synthetic oil void my warranty?
No. AMSOIL meets or exceeds all major motorcycle manufacturer specifications. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects your right to use aftermarket oils that meet OEM specifications. Keep your receipts as proof of maintenance.
Maintenance & Intervals
How often should I change my dirt bike oil?
With AMSOIL synthetic: 10-15 hours for motocross racing, 15-20 hours for trail riding, 20-30 hours for casual riding. Always check your owner's manual and adjust based on riding conditions. Severe conditions (dust, water, extreme heat) require more frequent changes.
Should I change the oil filter every time?
Yes. Always change the oil filter with every oil change. The filter traps contaminants and becomes less effective over time. A new filter ensures maximum protection for your engine.
How much oil does my dirt bike need?
Varies by bike. Most 450cc four-strokes need 0.8-1.2 liters with filter change. Two-strokes need much less (just premix or injection tank). Check your owner's manual for exact capacity.
Do I need to warm up my bike before changing oil?
Yes. Run the engine for 2-3 minutes to warm the oil. Warm oil flows better and carries out more contaminants. Don't overheat it though - warm is good, hot is dangerous.
